About this event

Auditorium. The right to vote is one of the defining promises and enduring struggles of American democracy. Its story reaches back to 1619 and Jamestown, where representation, voting and local governance began shaping the colonies. These principles helped inspire the Declaration of Independence, the American Revolution and the Constitution. Yet voting rights have been expanded, restricted and redefined throughout American history, shaped by slavery, women’s suffrage, immigration, political turmoil and the ongoing struggle for civil rights. This engaging program explores the fascinating history of how voting rights were created, expanded, challenged and why the struggle still matters today. This program is presented by Steve Pollack, a seasoned presenter.
