PAINTING TREES IN THE LANDSCAPE

Howard Park and Lisa Miceli Trees are a beautiful and essential focus of many landscape paintings, but can be challenging to draw and paint. This 3-week class focuses on the basics of drawing and painting trees, and how to place them in a pleasing composition with an understanding of light and shadows. Instruction includes perspective techniques for drawing deciduous and coniferous trees, including distant masses of trees, trees in the foreground, and the depiction of tree trunks, branches, and leaves throughout the seasons. In the spirit of the holidays, the course includes the option to create a painting or card featuring snow-covered pines or any tree that captures the beauty of the changing seasons. The class includes demonstrations in both oil and watercolor, along with personalized guidance for each student. 3-week series Tuesdays, 9am – 12pm December 8 – December 22 Members $144 / Nonmembers $168 Class Supply List *These are only suggestions. Please bring any and all of your favorites supplies or materials that you would like to try out. Recommended Oil and Acrylic List: Painting Surfaces: 9×12 or 11×14 canvas, canvas board, or an alternate favorite surface. (We may add a larger size canvas as the class progresses). Brushes: Assorted sizes and shapes in either your choice of natural hair or synthetic fibers. These may include, but are not limited to: Round, Flat, Bright, Filbert, Fan, Angle, Mop….Mixing Knife and Painting Knives Colors: Your choice of assorted Oil or Acrylic colors. In addition to your favorite color palette, you should include: Mediums: Linquin, Stand Oil and Webber Gel for Oils. Odorless paint thinner only please! Mixing mediums and paint thickening Gel for Acrylic. Other: Large palette and an image of a landscape you would like to use as a reference.
