MODERATE: Bursera Trail

Bursera and Gila Trails Loop, Chandler Blvd Trailhead Meet up at Cottonwood Parking Lot at 7:30 with departure at 7:45 Location: South Mountain Hike Leader: David Coffman 425-330-2183 Distance: 6.3 miles Trailhead elevation: 1,259 feet, AEG: 1,134 feet Driving Distance: 36 miles R/T Driver's Fee: $3 If using a GPS application enter Bursera Trailhead for directions. The hike starts from the TH for Gila Peak. Take 202 Loop west - Exit on 17th Avenue and head north to Chandler Blvd - Turn left on Chandler and continue to the end where the parking lot is located. This is a loop hike on the Southwest side of South Mountain. Expect a good workout with some steep climbs, a breezy ridge-walk and a steep descent on the Bursera Trail and rollercoaster dips and climbs swooping among the craggy foothills on the Gila Trail. Hiking this trail in the winter usually leads to more wildlife sightings. There are great views of the Estrella Mountains to the west and of Ahwatukee. Check your boots for good tread (needed for the rough trail and loose rocks). Hiking poles are suggested. Leader: David Coffman 425-330-2183
