About this event
Dir. Eleanor Coppola. 2026. 86 mins. U.S. DCP. With Sofia Coppola, Kirsten Dunst, Jason Schwartzman. In 2005, Eleanor Coppola filmed her daughter Sofia directing Marie Antoinette at the Palace of Versailles, the first production ever granted access to the palace. For two decades, eighty hours of footage went unseen. Now, twenty years after the film’s release and in fulfillment of her mother’s wish, that footage becomes a film of its own. Making Marie Antoinette follows the making of this landmark production, the creation of Milena Canonero’s costumes, and what it took for Sofia to direct at 34, all the while being watched by her mother. Making Marie Antoinette will be in theaters October 23 and available exclusively on MUBI globally from November 6. Watch an official clip here. Free with RSVP, courtesy of MUBI. The new 20th Anniversary 4K restoration of Marie Antoinette will be in US theaters and streaming on MUBI in the US on October 23rd. MoMI members can screen it early on Friday, October 16. Please note: this event is at capacity. Limited tickets may become available on standby. Please pick up tickets at the Museum’s admissions desk upon arrival. All seating is general admission.
