About this event

Dir. Naveen Chaubal. 2026, 86 mins. U.S. DCP. In English, Arabic with English subtitles. In this tender coming of age portrait, Yosef, a spirited athlete in Louisville, Kentucky, contemplates his past as a displaced Iraqi refugee, his present as an immigrant trying to make sense of his kaleidoscopic identity, and his uncertain future. As Yosef reaches milestones of adulthood—high school graduation, his sister’s departure from the U.S.—long-buried questions come to the surface: where does he belong? Has he truly escaped from the shadow of war? What does it mean to build a future in a place shaped by the same forces that displaced his family? Is the life he is living truly his own—or simply the safest one available to him? In director Naveen Chaubal’s feature documentary debut, Yosef dives into the memories of his journey from Iraq to America and, like the steel ball ricocheting inside a machine, navigates shifting social, cultural, political, and financial pressures, trying to find stillness, purpose, and a place to land in an increasingly chaotic world. Tickets: $17.50 / $12 senior and students / $10 youth / free for MoMI members. There is a $1.50 transaction fee per ticket for all online purchases. The cost of admission may be applied toward a same-day purchase of a membership. Order tickets. Please pick up tickets at the Museum’s admissions desk upon arrival. All seating is general admission.
