Leftover Biscuits
In August 2021, four friends came together to form the group called: “Leftover Biscuits”. The group, which provides toe-tapping old-time string music, includes life-long, seasoned-musicians: Dr. Mark Handy (banjo, vocals), Joy Patton (fiddle, vocals), Roger Stamper (guitar, vocals) and Tammy Martin (upright bass, vocals). All members have a wide and varied musical background performing and recording CDs with their former groups: “Mountain Park Old-time Band” (Handy & Stamper) for 13 yrs., Appalachian/Celtic group “Fire in the Kitchen” (Martin) for 17 yrs. Handy and Patton also have a long history with the group “TuneTown” which was formed in 1997 and continues to play today. Martin, known for her solo music on the hammered dulcimer, continues now in her 32nd year and Stamper, who has been playing Irish fiddle for most of his life, is embarking on his 16th year in the “Almost Irish Band” based in NC. Leftover Biscuits, based out of North Carolina and Southwest Virginia, can be found playing at festivals and events across the region such as: the Carter Family Fold, the Floyd Country Store and on the WPAQ Merry-Go-Round Radio Show to name a few. Combining the strong musical heritage of both NC & VA, Leftover Biscuits is certain to entertain and leave audiences humming some mighty fine tunes.
