About this event

Sheila Barbone This class introduces the basics of oil painting using either traditional oil paints or water-based oil paints. Instruction begins with learning how to use the basic materials of oil painting. Students will then proceed to paint a simple still life together step by step. The instructor will provide easel-side guidance and demonstrations. Topics include: Composition – how to set up a still life for painting. Underpainting – applying a thin wash of paint. Sketching – transferring the image onto the canvas. Blocking In – using a larger brush to block in the dark shapes first, followed by other shades and shapes as the painting progresses. This approach is known as Alla Prima (wet-on-wet). As the class progresses, a landscape painting will also be introduced and completed together.
