Backyard Apothecary: Healing Herbs Found in the Yard

@ Discover the rich tradition of Gullah Geechee herbal medicine in the Discovery Center classroom with Jackie Williams through an interactive workshop exploring the healing plants found in the yard. Participants will learn how ancestral plant knowledge has been preserved across generations while identifying native herbs with medicinal and culinary uses, practicing sustainable harvesting techniques, and exploring traditional methods of preparation. The workshop includes a hands-on herbal tea blending demonstration, storytelling that highlights the cultural and spiritual significance of plants in Gullah Geechee traditions, tea tastings, and practical herbal remedies for everyday wellness. Participants will leave with a deeper appreciation for Gullah Geechee heritage and practical knowledge for incorporating native herbs into their daily lives. Participants will need to dress for the weather and wear closed-toe shoes. This is a rain or shine event. (Exertion level: Low impact – sitting, standing) Reservations required.
