About this event
Laura Levine Basic Drawing and Painting from Observation: This course introduces the fundamentals of drawing and painting from direct observation. Open to all skill levels, it focuses on techniques for creating the illusion of depth, developing spatial awareness, and building strong compositions. Students will draw and paint from a variety of subjects, including still life, costumed figures, and outdoor landscapes (weather permitting). The class begins with drawing and gradually moves into painting, balancing technical skill with personal expression. Working from life helps strengthen perception, accuracy, and creative confidence in both drawing and painting. Oil paint is recommended, though any paint medium is welcome. 5-week series Wednesdays, 1pm – 4pm October 14 – November 18(No class on November 11) Members $240 / Nonmembers $280 Class Supply List Drawing Materials: Drawing pad, 18″ x 24″ #2 or softer pencils Grey kneaded eraser Vine charcoal Paper towels or clean rags Painting Materials: Solvent: Gamsol (odorless) for cleaning brushes Paint: Titanium White – large tube, Cadmium Red Medium, Alizarin Crimson or Permanent Madder Deep, Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Blue, Cadmium yellow medium, Permanent lemon yellow, Raw Umber, Burnt Sienna, Yellow Ochre, Viridian Green Brushes: Several oil painting brushes in assorted styles (flat, bright, round) Suggested sizes: #5, #8, and #10 Painting Surfaces: Oil painting panels in various sizes Minimum size: 11″ x 14″ Maximum size: 18″ x 24″ 2 drop handle Palette knives Palette either disposable or wooden Note: If you already have similar materials, feel free to use what you have on hand.
