About this event
Walk in the footsteps of John Wayne and Kim Darby as you explore downtown Ridgway with a trained guide to discover the fascinating behind-the-scenes story of the filming of the original True Grit movie in 1968. Many of the buildings seen in the movie are still in place. John Wayne won his only Oscar for his portrail of Marshal Rooster Cogburn. Offered every Friday at 3 pm in June, July and August. Additional tours are offered at 10am Mondays and 3 pm Wednesdays in July. Meet at the Hartwell Park gazebo 15 minutes before tours begin. FREE. Tours last about an hour. In 2022, this tour was recognized nationally when it was named the reader's choice for best historic town tour by True West magazine. For more information see the website: TrueGritTours.org or on facebook: True Grit Tours. Other tour options 1) Custom tours are also available and can be scheduled throughout the year at a time of your choosing. This costs $10 per person and should be paid in cash at the beginning of the tour. We ask for several days' notice so we can assign a tour guide.
