Beat & Step: West African Dance, Drum & Body Percussion is an energetic and interactive class that combines traditional West African dance, drumming, and body percussion into one exciting experience. Students will learn dance combinations, explore traditional drumming rhythms that tell stories, and create music using their hands, feet, body, drums, and voice. Along the way, they'll develop coordination, rhythm, musicality, focus, memory, confidence, and teamwork while experiencing the rich cultural traditions of West Africa. No previous dance or music experience is required—just curiosity, energy, and a willingness to learn. Students enrolled in this performance class will showcase what they've learned in our winter production. Dress Code: Students should wear comfortable clothing that allows for plenty of movement. Athletic clothing such as T-shirts, leggings, athletic pants, or shorts is recommended. Please avoid jeans or restrictive clothing. Wear comfortable athletic shoes or sneakers that are clean and reserved for class. Shoes should not be worn outdoors. Students will perform in The Nutcracker Remixed in December at the Montrose Paviion. CLASS LOCATION: WEEHAWKEN MONTROSE
