About this event

Dir. William Friedkin. 1973, 122 mins. U.S. 35mm. With Ellen Burstyn, Linda Blair, Jason Miller, Max von Sydow. Widely considered one of the scariest films ever made, The Exorcist has shocked and fascinated generations of viewers. Directed by William Friedkin and written by William Peter Blatty, adapting his own best-selling 1971 novel, the film made an essential contribution to the horror genre, pitting the Catholic church against a demon for control of a young girl’s soul. The film’s remarkable, often shocking effects were done by the brilliant and pioneering makeup master Dick Smith (Little Big Man, The Godfather), who transformed the possessed young girl Regan (Linda Blair) into a foul, blasphemous monster. Nominated for ten Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and winning for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Sound. Tickets: $17.50 / $12 senior and students / $10 youth / free for MoMI members. There is a $1.50 transaction fee per ticket for all online purchases. The cost of admission may be applied toward a same-day purchase of a membership. Purchase tickets for October 24 at 3:00 p.m. Purchase tickets for October 31 at 3:30 p.m. Please pick up tickets at the Museum’s admissions desk upon arrival. All seating is general admission.
