Is he shuttling head-first into a mental crackup? Or does the mean-spirited Fats truly have a mind of his own? Genuinely unsettling, this shadowy, emotionally gripping thriller was infamous for its 1970s TV spots, which scarred a generation of unsuspecting kids, but the film is diabolically effective in every way, and features a stellar cast, including a touching Ann-Margret as his love interest.
