Released at the height of the Cold War nuclear scare of the early 1980s, this harrowing, intimate drama stars Jane Alexander, in an Oscar-nominated performance, as a California wife and mother struggling to hold her family together after the unthinkable happens: a nuclear strike on the U.S. Keeping the focus entirely on one household and the tight-knit neighborhood around it, director Lynne Littman fashioned the scariest and subtlest movie about the end of the world in American cinema history.
