About this event

Dir. Bob Fosse. 1972, 124 mins. U.S. 35mm. With Liza Minnelli, Michael York, Helmut Griem, Joel Grey, Maria Berenson. Fosse rightly won the Best Director Oscar for his shattering musical set in Berlin on the eve of Hitler’s rise to power. Liza Minnelli and Joel Grey also scored Oscars for their unforgettable performances as, respectively, Sally Bowles, a vivacious but damaged American singer selling her soul in a seedy nightclub, and the devilish emcee who presides over it. A devastating, delirious movie experience, featuring John Kander and Fred Ebb’s rousing show tunes and Geoffrey Unsworth’s gloriously ragged photography, Cabaret reinvented the movie musical for 1970s American cinema and all but wrote a new cinematic grammar for how to shoot and edit song and dance. Tickets: $17.50 / $12 senior and students / $10 youth / free for MoMI members. There is a $1.50 transaction fee per ticket for all online purchases. The cost of admission may be applied toward a same-day purchase of a membership. Order tickets. Please pick up tickets at the Museum’s admissions desk upon arrival. All seating is general admission.
