About this event

PLEASE NOTE 8:30 START TIME. ROUTE CHOICES REMAIN LIMITED AT THIS TIME DUE TO MANY TRAIL CLOSURES WHILE NEARBY FIRE REMAINS A THREAT. HERE'S ONE OF MY BEST THOUGHTS FOR US AT THIS TIME: I really enjoy the Saddleback Trail, connecting Burn with Chamisa, not as frequented as many others, with differing views due to its positioning. We'll all begin at Burn Trail, hike to Gate, where we'll turn right onto Saddleback and proceed steadily uphill to Chamisa saddle. From there we'll hike down Chamisa TH where we will have left cars, to shuttle us back to Burn TH, where we began. Total distance is approximately 5+ miles (I haven't tracked it, so this is my guestimate); with some significant elevation gain, steady uphill climb for most of route, (from beginning to Chamisa Saddle), with some short but steep sections on Saddleback. There will be an option for those who prefer to turn around at the Chamisa Saddle & return to the Burn TH the way we came. This will make for a 6+ mile distance. Hikers need to consider in advance which option they wish for this day for carpooling purposes. Burro Hikes are considered moderate by our standards, are for experienced hikers, acclimated to altitude here, usually on designated trails and usually 4-6 miles in distance, unless otherwise specified. Newcomers are welcome! I do ask that prior to signing up for your first hike with us, you test your fitness by timing yourself hiking up and down Atalaya, which you should be able to do comfortably in 3 1/2 hours or less (from Wilderness Gate or staircase, using steep route option). If you have any questions about Atalaya, or about my hikes in general, please feel free to text me. Ronnie Chafel 617-331-1838 Non-aggressive, well mannered dogs are always welcome on my hikes. We meet at the DeVargas Mall parking lot, behind the stores (back of lot); please park in a lane near the bowling alley, but not right up against the mall wall. We carpool to all THs together. Please offer your driver $2…
