Strum & Sing Thursdays
We are a convivial group of ukulele players of all levels who get together every Thursday evening at the Tredyffrin Public Library, to play and sing together—and have fun! We start playing at 5:00 pm and play until 6:50 pm. Everyone must be out of the library by 7:00 pm. If possible, arrive early to help set up and get tuned up. But If you can’t get there by 5:00, no problem. We will be happy to see you whenever you arrive. What to bring: Your ukulele, of course. Your music stand and tuner. Your ukExuberance! The appropriate Daily Ukulele songbook. We use the “yellow book” (The Daily Ukulele: 365 Songs For Better Living) and the “blue book” (The Daily Ukulele: Leap Year Edition). Both are by Jim and Liz Beloff and are available for sale online both in a print edition and as an eBook through Amazon Kindle. We alternate books monthly: August = Yellow book September = Blue book October = Yellow book (and so on) You can also bring a print-out of a song you’d like to share with the group that is not in either of the books. Please bring 12-14 copies. The format: Our meetings follow a “song circle” format. This means we go around the circle with each player in turn, choosing a song from the Daily Ukulele book that they are prepared to lead. We would love for you to have 2-3 songs you've chosen from that week’s book. (Or, we also welcome you to bring copies of ukulele songs for us to play that are not in the book. As noted above, try to bring 12-14 copies of the song.) It is good if you can run through your chosen tunes several times before the meeting. Be ready to go over the song’s “road map” of verses, repeats, codas, etc. If you don’t feel like you can manage that, don’t worry. There is always an experienced group member who can stand in for you on explaining the musical road map. We are a completely encouraging and supportive group! IMPORTANT: Each week, check the Comments box, below, to be apprised of any changes.
