Claire Weisz, founding principal of WXY architecture + urban design, discusses the firm’s approach to designing for an era of climate adaptation. She highlights projects that span cultural institutions, educational facilities, and public realm initiatives, including over a decade of work in the Rockaways following Hurricane Sandy. The program explores how WXY integrates resilience, equity, and civic engagement into site-sensitive, context-driven design, strengthening physical infrastructure while enhancing public life. ASLA Claire Weisz, is a founding principal of WXY architecture + urban design, a New York City– and Toronto-based studio dedicated to creating equitable, vibrant, and healthy buildings, places, and systems. She is also a co-founder and former co-executive director of The Design Trust for Public Space. She has been honored with the prestigious Medal of Honor by the New York Chapter of the American Institute of Architects in 2018, the Women in Architecture Award by Architectural Record in 2019, and the Engineering News Record’s New York Legacy Award in 2024.
