About this event
CLICK HERE TO REGISTER Our focus for this workshop will be the medieval hood. While archeological finds have brought several types and styles of hoods, we will focus on what we know as a type and style of hood from 14th-century England commonly used by villagers, merchants and clergy. We will explore the construction of the hood, applying the documented philosophy of using only squares, triangles and rectangles for the pattern pieces to avoid fabric waste. The fabric requirement is 1 yd of Wool Flannel 60” wide. You will need to provide your own fabric for this project. Please choose your own color, and if you want your hood to be historical, keep in mind the colors available in 14th-century England. Please, no patterns or plaids. To assist you, once you register, you will receive a list of online resources where you can purchase wool fabric. Please be aware of ordering and shipping times to ensure that your fabric arrives in time for this workshop. The workshop will provide needles and thread for handsewing, as well as modern sewing machines for sewing seams. You may use which you chose, including a combination, to achieve that “medieval look.” You are welcome to bring any sewing notions, like matching thread and decorative buttons, if you wish. First we will drawn the pattern directly onto your fabric with tailors chalk (available at the Crafters Hall for your use), then cut it so you can start assembling. Guidance will be given freely for the assembly process, and you may choose to sew by hand or with a sewing machine. Please know that the construction assembly requires insertion of 4 gores, which are known to be rather fiddly, so if you have not put a gore in before, or if you did not attend the ʻHow To Sew Medievalʻ Workshop here at Camlann, it may test your patience. But no fear, we can guide you so that your project will be something of pride. Reference and resource handouts will be made available for each participant via a USG thumb drive. One…
