America’s First Woman Botanist Jane Colden (1724–1760) was America’s first woman botanist, yet her contributions to the field of remain little-known and her writings are mostly unpublished. Enjoy this lecture restoring Colden’s life and work, in her own writings, her father’s correspondence, and botanic sources of the 18th century with Fenella Greig Heckscher, author of Jane Colden’s Botanic Manuscript: The Legacy of America’s First Woman Botanist. The Research at Winterthur series, presented by the Library, Research Fellowship Program, and Continuing Education, showcases new projects and publications that tap into our rich collections and resources, unveiling innovative perspectives for exploring the fascinating stories that objects can tell about people and our shared past.
