About this event

Auditorium - Main Library. What happens to a community’s history when the place where that history was made disappears? Remembering Our Schools: Preserving Black Schoolhouse Memories will explore the importance of preserving Richmond’s historic Black schools and the memories, stories, and community connections tied to them. These schools were more than places of education—they served as gathering places, community anchors, and spaces where generations of Richmonders built relationships and shared experiences. The program will bring together community members and organizations involved in efforts to preserve the histories of former Black schools to discuss their work, what remains of these places, and what can be learned from photographs, yearbooks, oral histories, memorabilia, and other materials.
