Robert Kroll will be interviewed about his book Orson Welles' Commercial Break, an endeavor that took 12 years before completion. Though Orson Welles' television commercials in the late seventies and early eighties were seen as the nadir of a career that included Citizen Kane and the notorious "War of the Worlds" broadcast in 1938. Yet these commercials were often a financial and creative lifeline for Welles. The commercials also have strong behind the scenes stories of their own. None are nearly as negative as leaked outtakes would lead viewers to believe, and many people began their careers working with Welles on these advertisements. Kroll will talk about and read selections from the book and show video clips of Orson Welles' most famous (and infamous) television commercials.
