About this event

Join the Pratt Page-Turners Book Club for a discussion of the 2026 One Maryland One Book selection, No Sense in Wishing: Essays on Black Music, Belonging, and Baltimore by Lawrence Burney. No Sense in Wishing: Essays on Black Music, Belonging, and Baltimore by Lawrence Burney is a personal and analytical essay collection that showcases his home city of Baltimore, music from throughout the global Black diaspora, and the traditions that raised him. Each essay draws on formative moments and cultural artifacts to tell the story of our region’s cultural scene through Burney's unique point of view. Written by one of our contemporary rising cultural critics, the book aptly captures this year’s One Maryland One Book theme of Revolution, Reaction, and Reform. This program has a hybrid format. Participate either in person or on Zoom. For help obtaining a copy of the book or more information about the book club, please email fic@prattlibrary.org. Free parking validation stickers will be available to program attendees who park at the Franklin Street Garage (15 W. Franklin Street) while supplies last. Take a ticket when you enter the garage, and ask Pratt event staff for your parking validation sticker prior to or after the program.
