Meeting Room B, Leesburg Public Library. The Florida Master Gardener Program is an outreach program composed of UF/IFAS Extension certified volunteers who are trained to provide research-based horticultural education to Florida residents. Learn from their expertise on gardening, landscaping, and environmental stewardship. Each session highlights practical tips and research-based information designed to help our community enjoy and care for Florida’s unique natural environment. Topic: Five Fabulous Fruit Trees One of the most critical factors in selecting a fruit tree for your yard is understanding chill hours, as many varieties require a specific period of cold temperatures to set fruit properly. Because our local climate in Zone 9b experiences mild winters with limited cold snaps, choosing the right low-chill varieties is essential for a productive harvest. This presentation spotlights five fantastic fruit tree selections ideally suited for our area, teaching attendees how to evaluate chill hour requirements and successfully grow homegrown fruit.
