About this event

Community Room. Join us for these free lecture programs to get a taste of what Learning in Retirement (LIR) has to offer! LIR offers a variety of courses both in person and online for retirees, taught by experts and former teachers who love to share their passions. Low cost, six-week courses cover current events, history, medicine, languages, technology, nature, and many other topics. For more information visit lirpalmdesert.com, or search "LIR Palm Desert" on Facebook or YouTube. Despite the image evoked by Rodin’s The Thinker, philosophy is an activity that engages the most human dimension of human beings—the ability to think and to think critically. In this lecture, Dr. Kenneth J. Zanca attempts to explain what philosophy is and why it is important for everyone. Dr. Zanca is professor emeritus of Marymount California University with 30 years of teaching experience in the field of religious and philosophical ethics. He is the author of a philosophy textbook, How to Arrive at a Considered Opinion: A Method of Analyzing Moral Issues in the Public Debates, and a co-author of the world religions textbook Patterns of Religions (in its third edition).
