Jemez East River Slot Canyon

Location: Jemez Mountains | Distance: Approx. 2 - 3 miles (not full loop) Rated: Moderate | Special Features: Streams, waterfall, and optional swim spot! This hike has become a group favorite, so we’re scheduling it again—with future dates also planned for July, August and September if warm. Shiuld be full bloom Black-Eyed Susans For this one, please wear shoes you don’t mind getting wet. We’ll be crossing streams, and the boxed canyon features a beautiful waterfall and even an area to swim. Last year, some sections of water were thigh-deep, so come prepared. Trail Details: • We will not be doing the full 4.6-mile loop. • There will be sections where rocks will be slippery. Meet-Up Info: • Time: Meet at 7:45 AM at the Rio Rancho Home Depot • Departure: 8:00 AM sharp • Carpooling is encouraged, as parking is limited in Jemez. What to Bring: • Plenty of water • Snacks • Towel (optional, if you plan to swim) • Pet owners: Some small areas allow pets off-leash—please keep them under control at all times. There is also the possibility of grabbing lunch afterwards.
