In Conversation with Percival Everett - Pulitzer Prize Winning Author of "James"

Renowned for his genre-bending body of work, Everett is the author of numerous acclaimed works, including Dr. No, The Trees, Telephone, Erasure, and I Am Not Sidney Poitier. His newest novel, James—a bold, action-packed reimagining of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn told from Jim’s point of view—has been hailed as “genius” by The Atlantic. An instant New York Times bestseller, James won the 2024 National Book Award for Fiction and the 2025 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and is currently being adapted for film. With sharp insight and biting wit, Everett’s writing examines race, politics, gender, power, family, and the tension between love and intellect. In this engaging conversation, he will share anecdotes about how he created his diverse bibliography and his unique approach to the creative process. The discussion will be moderated by Kyle Kellams, news director at KUAF, and will be followed by a book signing. Pearl’s Books will have copies of Percival Everett's books available for purchase. This event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited and tickets are required.
