About this event

Dir. Vincente Minnelli. 1960, 150 mins. U.S. 35mm print courtesy of the George Eastman Museum, lent by an anonymous lender. With Robert Mitchum, Eleanor Parker, George Peppard, George Hamilton. One of Minnelli’s most striking inquiries into wounded American masculinity, this Western-tinged, widescreen, Metro-color corker stars a brilliant and menacing Mitchum as the powerful Texas patriarch of the Hunnicutt clan, at odds with his son (Hamilton), whom he fears has grown too soft being raised by his estranged wife (Parker). Evocatively shot and art designed in burnished, deeply conflicted earth tones, Home from the Hill, adapted from a novel by William Humphrey, builds toward a series of emotional climaxes that provide a perfect capper for Minnelli’s incredible run of fifties melodramas. Tickets: $17.50 / $12 senior and students / $10 youth / $7 MoMI members. There is a $1.50 transaction fee per ticket for all online purchases. The cost of admission may be applied toward a same-day purchase of a membership. Order tickets. Please pick up tickets at the Museum’s admissions desk upon arrival. All seating is general admission.
