Pearson Room. The Blue Hill Public Library will present a candidates forum with the Hancock County Sheriff candidates Corey Bagley and Dakota Dupuis on Wednesday, October 21 at 7:00 p.m. The candidates will be given questions and topics of discussion by a panel of three local reporters and editors: John Epstein, Rising Tide; Faith DeAmbrose, Ellsworth American/MDIslander; and Andy Webster, Penobscot Bay Press. Facilitating the forum is Amanda Woog, Blue Hill Selectboard. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office serves all of Hancock County, with a population of around 55,000 in the off-season, which can triple during the tourist season. The sheriff, an elected position which serves for four years, oversees the county jail, manages deputies and other staff, and works with other law enforcement agencies. The 2026 election will take place on Tuesday, November 3. Corey Bagley is currently a detective with the Ellsworth Police Department, and has worked in law enforcement in Hancock County for over 3 decades. He was a patrol deputy with the Hancock County Sheriff's Office for 12 years, then 13 years with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, before returning to duty as a patrol deputy, then as patrol lieutenant. Corey was chief deputy from 2022-23, then joined the Ellsworth Police Department. Dakota Dupuis is currently a Lieutenant with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office. He first began as a patrol officer for the Orono Police Department, and in 2018, became a patrol deputy for the Hancock County Sheriff Department. From 2022-23, he worked with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, and then was promoted to lieutenant with the Sheriff Department in 2024. Andy Webster is deputy editor with Penobscot Bay Press and has a 50 plus year career in marketing, publishing, and the marine industry. Faith DeAmbrose is an award-winning journalist and managing editor of the Islander. She brings over 20 years of experience working in coastal Maine communities.
