About this event

Dir. Vincente Minnelli. 1958, 115 mins. U.S. 35mm. With Leslie Caron, Louis Jourdan, Maurice Chevalier, Hermione Gingold. The CinemaScope frame is crammed with exquisite detail in this thrillingly visualized musical adapted from a story by Collette about a girl’s coming-of-age in wealthy turn-of-the-century Paris. Minnelli’s film is both tender and sly, a social satire of sexual mores as well as a moving tale of an innocent’s entrance into a complicated world in which women’s options are limited. The winner of nine Oscars (a record at the time), including Best Picture, Director, Cinematography, Art Direction, Costume Design, Song, and Score (by My Fair Lady composers Lerner and Loewe), Gigi is a triumph on every level, like a Toulouse-Lautrec painting sprung to giddy life. Tickets: $17.50 / $12 senior and students / $10 youth / $7 MoMI members. There is a $1.50 transaction fee per ticket for all online purchases. The cost of admission may be applied toward a same-day purchase of a membership. Order tickets. Please pick up tickets at the Museum’s admissions desk upon arrival. All seating is general admission.
