Join the Garden Club of Minneapolis for an engaging presentation by Theresa Bentz, co-owner of Get Bentz Farm, a 40-acre sustainable farm near Northfield, Minnesota. Theresa and her husband raise Icelandic sheep for both meat and wool and are committed to environmentally responsible farming practices. In 2020, they purchased a wool mill to process locally sourced fleece, creating new opportunities for regional fiber producers. Today, the mill spins yarn from across the tri-state region and provides the community with “Farm Fresh Yarn” through its CSA program. The farm also features a mesic prairie, leases acreage to a natural plant-dye operation, and added solar power in 2024 as part of its sustainability efforts. Learn how wool products can benefit home gardens through weed suppression, moisture retention, and soil improvement. Theresa will discuss the uses of wool fiber mulch and wool pellets, and explain how sheep can help improve land management and prairie ecosystems. Wool products, including yarn, wool fiber mulch, and wool pellet mulch, will be available for purchase. This event is free and open to the public.
