About this event

2:00–4:00 p.m. “It’s time to sing the music!” Love to sing? Love the music of Jim Henson even more? Then this one’s for you. Join renowned Community Song Leader Dodie Whitaker for an interactive song circle featuring four or five original a cappella two-, three-, and four-part arrangements of your puppet-y favorites, built not just to be sung, but to be sung together, in the same room, at the same time. All songs are taught call-and-response style. No experience necessary, no community singing background required, just a willingness to raise your voice alongside a room full of others. Optional sheet music provided. All frogs, pigs, and furry monsters welcome! RSVP here. Dodie Whitaker is a multifaceted performing artist, song leader, educator, and mom whose infectious joy and singular style have moved audiences across the globe for 40+ years. Raised on a steady diet of Sesame Street, The Muppet Show, and the Muppet movies, Dodie spent her childhood inventing plays, songs, soap operas, and radio shows with her sister — and still breaks into song and impromptu dance routines to this day. That same spirit now fuels her work directing high school musicals and community choirs, as she leads rooms full of people, young and old, in finding their voice. Co-author of Who Is Community Singing For? and an artistic DEIB consultant, she is a leading voice in inclusive music-making, creating spaces where all voices truly matter. Weaving her biracial, Jewish identity and commitment to racial justice and collective liberation into her work, Dodie inspires communities worldwide to sing, connect, and organize together. Infusing energy, laughter, and a whole lot of love into every room she’s in, Dodie is a firm believer that singing together, with joy and intention, is one of the most powerful ways to build a community.
