You are invited to the U.S. premiere of Living Prayer in Christianity, a contemplative documentary that explores the inner practices, sacred iconography, and daily monastic rhythms of Orthodox Christian tradition. Director Jean-Claude Lubtchansky explores the essence of Christianity with the support of icons, which serve as windows to the sacred, making the invisible visible. Their development is closely linked to theology, liturgy, and monastic practice. The film highlights three main locations where icons continue to serve as forms of prayer within Christianity: Saint Catherine’s Monastery at the foot of Mount Sinai, the Greek monastic peninsula of Mount Athos, and various sites in Russia. The narration is based on sacred traditional Orthodox sources. Jean-Claude Lubtchansky was a French documentary filmmaker who, over his long career, made important contributions to educational television in France, making films on such figures as Galileo and Leonardo da Vinci. His deep interest in esotericism and spirituality led him to make a trilogy of documentaries on G. I. Gurdjieff entitled The Seekers of Truth (2005) and a series of films on Shintoism, Buddhism, Hinduism and the present film on Christianity.
