Family Fun: Sand, Surf, and Science

@ Start the New Year by doing some science at Hobcaw Beach! After a bus ride, participants will explore the undeveloped beach by searching for sand crabs, examining the boneyard beach, and trying to catch some critters in the surf. Upon returning to the Discovery Center, participants will examine water samples, sand, and even shells under microscopes to investigate all of the smallest details. Recommended for children ages 6 and up; children under 7 must be accompanied by an adult. Participants should wear closed-toe shoes and dress for the weather. Participants may want to bring a water bottle. (Exertion level: Moderate impact – walking on uneven terrain, standing) Reservations required. Please note that tour participants travel via a 14-person passenger bus on rustic roads comprised of sand and dirt. Often, the roads are extremely rough and rutted, a situation which will jostle riders on the bus. Although the staff at Hobcaw Barony tries to keep them smooth, due to changeable weather and other factors, the condition of the rural roadways cannot be guaranteed to be even.
