Are you a teen who is 17 going on 18 or already 18 years old? Learn about your right to vote and how to register with help from volunteers at our Central Library. In order to register to vote, you must: Be a United States Citizen. Be at least 17 years old on or before the date of the Primary Election (March 17, 2026) and turn 18 on or before the date of the General or Consolidated Election (November 3, 2026). 16-year-olds may preregister to vote. Live in your election precinct at least 30 days prior to Election Day. Not be serving a sentence of confinement in any penal institution as a result of a conviction. You may not claim the right to vote anywhere else. 2 forms of ID are required. One that has your name AND address, such as your driver's license or state ID and the 2nd one needs to have your name OR address, such as a piece of mail. You can pre-register to vote starting at 16. Even if you won't be 18 this election season, come on by and get yourself set up to vote. For more information on voting in Illinois, visit the Illinois State Board of Elections website. We have voter information, resources to register to vote, snacks, and more. Stop by the Teen space anytime between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m.
