Art Reception & Talk Bonnie Chase

Holmes Reading Room - Front Room. Join us on Tuesday, October 13th for an art reception at 5:00 for “Nature Inspired Art,” an exhibit by mixed-media artist Bonnie Chase at the Southwest Harbor Public Library. Following the reception, Bonnie will give the talk “The Unspoken Stories Behind Art” from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Please register below for this in-person talk. A Mount Desert Island year-round resident, Bonnie will talk about several of her art pieces created from natural materials collected from her small organic farm. She will discuss the “whys” behind her choices of form, materials, colors and textures she used to communicate a story, idea, event, or emotion without words. Please register for this in-person only program. Her exhibit will be on display from October 6th thru 31st. 20% of sales of artwork will benefit the library. Bonnie Chase’s artist statement: “A biologist, botanist, and naturalist by trade, I have had no formal art training, but I have always dabbled in art, starting at a very wee age, and have continued incorporating art throughout my careers. …I grow, collect, forage, and create most of the supporting tools, dyes, inks, pigments, and paints used in my art practice. I define my art as mixed media inspired by nature, the seasons, and the diverse landscape of this beautiful island.
