Sally Singer Tuttle, cello Peter de Grasse, dancer Phyllis Rothwell, dancer Ludwig van Beethoven - Symphony No. 3, “Eroica” What Makes This Concert Interesting Beethoven once planned to dedicate his Symphony No. 3 to Napoleon. After Napoleon declared himself Emperor, Beethoven scratched his name from the title page so fiercely that he reportedly left holes in the paper. Anna Clyne’s DANCE is based on five lines from “Dance,” a poem by Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi. Each movement takes its title from one line of the poem. About the Guest Artists SALLY SINGER TUTTLE British-born cellist Sally Singer Tuttle has performed as a soloist and chamber musician across Europe and the United States, with appearances at Tanglewood Music Center, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Alice Tully Hall, and with orchestras in the U.S., Bulgaria, and Russia. She has premiered works by several composers, including John David Earnest, who dedicated both a Sonata and Solo Suite to her and pianist Jackie Wood. Sally is a member of the Volta Piano Trio, formerly the Icicle Creek Piano Trio, whose recordings have received praise from Gramophone and Fanfare. The Trio has also been featured nationally on NPR’s Performance Today. A dedicated educator, Sally teaches cello at Whitman College and has led masterclasses,…
