Franklin has grown from Nashville's historic neighbor into a music destination in its own right. The Franklin Theatre, a lovingly restored 1937 movie house on Main Street, hosts intimate shows by major artists who appreciate a 300-seat room — the kind of venue where Nashville's resident stars turn up to play for the joy of it. The Pilgrimage Music & Cultural Festival each September brings national headliners to the rolling pastures of Harlinsdale Farm, and a newer amphitheater built into a former quarry south of town adds big outdoor shows. Main Street's festival calendar, from spring street fairs to a Dickens-themed Christmas, keeps the historic downtown busy year-round.
