Woodstock lent its name to a festival that actually happened sixty miles away, but the town's own musical legacy is the real thing — Dylan, The Band, and generations of artists have lived and worked in these Catskill hills. Levon Helm Studios still hosts the Midnight Rambles, the intimate barn concerts the Band's drummer began in his own home, and the Bearsville Theater complex carries on Albert Grossman's legacy with live music year-round. Maverick Concerts, running since 1916, is America's oldest continuous summer chamber music series, performed in a hand-built woodland hall. The village green, drum circles included, remains gloriously on-brand.
