Medora is a town of about a hundred people that stages one of the great summer shows in the West. The Medora Musical runs nightly from June through early September in the open-air Burning Hills Amphitheatre, a professionally produced celebration of Theodore Roosevelt and badlands history performed against the actual badlands at sunset. The famous pitchfork steak fondue — steaks speared and cooked over open flames on a bluff before the show — is half the ritual. With Theodore Roosevelt National Park surrounding the town, a Medora evening pairs wild horses and painted canyons with old-fashioned showmanship.
