Clarksdale is the holy ground of the Delta blues, the town where Highways 61 and 49 cross at the mythic spot where Robert Johnson is said to have made his deal. The blues here is living culture, not museum piece โ Red's Lounge remains one of the last authentic juke joints in America, and Ground Zero Blues Club, co-owned by Morgan Freeman, hosts live blues several nights a week. The Juke Joint Festival each April spreads music across every porch and storefront downtown, and the Sunflower River Blues and Gospel Festival follows in August. The Delta Blues Museum holds the artifacts; the bars hold the sound.
