About this event

Wednesday's Zoom link Stay accountable with two free weekly virtual writing workshops from WestportWRITES! The Westport Library is delighted to present two, free weekly Writing Sprints to Prompts and an AMA (“Ask Me Anything”) with award-winning author and teacher Alexandra Soiseth. This is like a write-in but with extras … it's writing time followed by a 30-minute Q&A where you can ask Tessa anything about writing, publishing, or marketing your stories (including where and how to submit for publication). Daytimes: Every Tuesday from 12-1:30 pm ET with Tessa Smith McGovern Evenings: Every Wednesday from 6-7:30 pm ET with Alexandra Soiseth We’ll chat for the first few minutes and then Alexandra will share some prompts and first lines which writers can use, tweak or ignore. The time can be spent on new words or world-building, revising – anything at all – doesn’t even have to be creative writing. Then we’ll write for 50 minutes, after which we'll have a 30-minute Q&A where we discuss writing goals and obstacles (and tips to overcome them) for the coming week, as well as that week's submissions. *** Alexandra Soiseth is a memoirist and novelist, editor and teacher, and certified creativity coach with more than two decades of experience helping writers bring their stories to the page. A former Associate Director of the MFA Writing Program at Sarah Lawrence College, she has taught fiction, creative nonfiction/memoir and publishing classes at the undergraduate and graduate level, as well as through continuing education and community-based programs with such diverse communities such as men and women in prison, young adults in summer and afterschool programs and seniors living in care facilities. Alexandra is the author of Choosing You (Seal Press), a memoir praised for its emotional clarity and narrative structure, and her shorter work has appeared in Global City Review, CrossBRONX, Lumina, and others. She is a recipient of a Canada Arts Council grant and Ontario…
