Writers Workshop: Lisa M. Lane - Being There: Creating Immersive Settings Through Research

Readers love the feeling they’re traveling to another place and time. How can writers create that immersive setting? In this workshop, Lisa M. Lane will discuss historical and local research, demonstrating methods for making the setting as strong an element in your fiction as plot or character. Participants will have a chance to play with developing a sample setting, and learn skills to apply to their own work. Lisa M. Lane is a historian and novelist. A retired history professor, she writes historical mystery, cozy mystery, and literary fiction, in addition to academic work in history and education. Her recently released Murder at the Gasworks, set in 1860 London, leads off her series of Tommy Jones Mysteries.
