About this event

Belgian Pie is a sweet pastry with various fillings and toppings. The dessert is sold at various festivals and Kermiss celebrations throughout Northeast Wisconsin. Pie flavors include apple, raisin, cherry, poppyseed or prune that are topped with a sweet cheesecake type flavor made from blended cottage cheese. Also, a rice pudding custard filling that is topped with whipped cream when cooled. Join the thousands of people who have learned the art of Belgian Pie making that was brought to this country by Belgian/American Immigrants in the mid 1800’s. In class, students will watch a video demonstrating how to make the sweet pastry pie crust fillings and toppings. Students will go home with a copy of the DVD or will be sent a link to the electronic version. Then, each person will assemble their own pie using previously prepared and risen pie dough, filling and topping. The pies will be baked in house. During the baking time, while sampling premade pies, Gina will share stories of long ago and provide a historical overview of the culture and customs of her family’s Belgian ancestors; Rouer, Lardinois, Vandertie, LuMaye. Once cooled, students will go home with their creation to share with others.
