About this event
Learn the basics of safe (wood) lathe operation in this certification workshop. You’ll learn how to secure wood and operate a lathe. You’ll learn about different lathe tools and how to work with lathe tools to shape wood. You’ll have an extended chance to use the lathe yourself under supervision. Please bring a mask. Class Type: Access Level: Beginner Timing: 2 hours Location: Suite #214, Workshop Back Room Corequisite: Shop Basics Certifications: Wood Lathe Age: 14+ with parent or guardian also taking the class Agenda: Safe lathe operation Setting up and adjusting the lathe for your project Swapping out and adjusting chucks Securing pieces of wood for turning Working with a variety of tools to create different effects Skew Chisels Scrapers Parting Tools Gouges Sanding objects on the Lathe What to bring: A notebook or well-charged phone for taking notes. What to wear: Closed-toe shoes, short sleeves, and work clothes. Long hair must be tied back. Safety Gear: Eye protection, ear protection, and sanitizer will be provided. You can also bring your own.
