About this event
That affordable housing building you didn’t want in your neighborhood? A kid who grows up there could be Seattle’s mayor one day. A senior who lives there could be the neighbor who waters your garden while you’re away. The families who move in could help your corner coffee shop have its best year yet. We spend a lot of time talking about what affordable housing might do to a neighborhood. Maybe we should talk more about what it adds. A home is more than four walls. It often is the foundation for better health, greater stability, stronger relationships, and the opportunity to imagine what comes next—to the benefit of the whole community, neighborhood, and even city. Join Community Roots Housing CEO Colleen Echohawk, Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce CEO Joe Nguyễn, and Chief Seattle Club Executive Director Derrick Belgarde for a conversation about the transformative role stable, affordable housing can play in people’s lives, and what becomes possible when people have a safe place to call home. Through personal stories and reflections from these civic leaders with lived experience, the program will explore housing not simply as a response to homelessness or affordability challenges, but as a starting point for people to build stability, pursue opportunities, and thrive.
