Community Conversation: Wabanaki Sovereignty Join us for a community conversation on Wabanaki Tribal Sovereignty, featuring Indigenous leaders and advocates Maulian Bryant and Sage Philips. This event invites community members to explore the history, current reality, and future of Tribal sovereignty in Maine. From foundational treaty rights and legal frameworks to modern self-determination and environmental stewardship, our speakers will share insights into why recognizing Wabanaki sovereignty is vital for all who call Maine home. Featured Speakers Maulian Bryant — Executive Director of the Wabanaki Alliance and former Tribal Ambassador for the Penobscot Nation. Maulian has been a leading voice in state and national policy, advocate for the passage of landmark legislative actions, and a prominent educator on Indigenous rights and sovereignty. Sage Phillips — Penobscot Nation member, Community Engagement and Communications Coordinator, and youth advocate dedicated to Indigenous educational equity, and elevating Wabanaki voices across local and regional platforms. What to Expect Historical Context: An overview of how historic agreements shape today’s jurisdictional and legal landscapes. Present-Day Impact: A discussion on ongoing legislative efforts, environmental governance, and economic self-determination for Wabanaki Nations.
