White Pine ecology hike at Black Canyon

Meet 9:30am to car pool from the PERA parking lot behind the Kakawa Chocolate House, 1050 Paseo de Peralta. The hike takes approximately three hours with frequent stop to appreciate the uniqueness of white pines and understand their threats. This hike is 2.5 miles with approximately 500 feet of elevation gain. Wear appropriate footwear and bring adequate water, hat, snacks and rain/snow gear, just in case as elevation is around 8,300’. The hike will be led by Sam Hitt, Santa Fe Forest Coalition, and Alan Shapiro, Northern Outings leader.
