About this event

Deadline to Register: September 10 at 5:00pm Title: Foraged Basketry “Kudzu Spheres” Description: Discover the art of transforming invasive vines into a beautiful and functional work piece. In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn how to turn kudzu, the notorious, fast-growing vine of the south, into a unique kudzu sphere. Using whole and split vines, makers will learn techniques for shaping and weaving the vines into a round, hollow sphere that can be used for botanical arrangements, home decor or hanging, globe-style light fixtures, to name a few. Instructor: Beth Phillips (@kudzumama) is a fiber artist, sculptor, and Public Programs Manager at Burritt On The Mountain. She has spent nearly two decades exploring the creative and utilitarian potential of kudzu. Specializing in vine basketry, natural bast fiber extraction, paper making, and botanical crafts, her work turns an invasive regional plant into a versatile medium for sustainable art. She actively lectures, teaches, and exhibits her work across Alabama, including representations at the Kentuck Art Center in Northport and Rocker Gallery in Sheffield. Supplies and Attire: All materials and supplies will be provided.
