Wednesday in the Woods: Tourne at Tourne County Park in Boonton Township, NJ on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
Distance: moderate hike of 5.5 miles Elevation gain: 660 ft What better way to celebrate Romer v. Evans than with a lesbian hike? Tourne County Park has trails on rolling hills through the woods. We’ll have a snack at the lake and later, near the end of the hike, we’ll walk up the Tourne (a steeper hill but not very tall) and have lunch looking at the view. Those who want to skip the Tourne can continue straight back to the cars which are a little way down the path. PLEASE NOTE: You cannot drive from the west entrance to our meeting place on the east side. There’s a gate across the road that’s usually close. You must enter from the east side. Friendly dogs are welcome. Romer v. Evans In 1992, Colorado voters passed a referendum that repealed city laws which banned discrimination against queers, and voters also outlawed any future laws protecting us. On May 20,1996, the US Supreme Court ruled for the first time that such discrimination based on sexual orientation was unlawful. The ruling paved the way for future landmark cases such as Lawrence v. Texas (ending sodomy laws) in 2003 and Obergefell v. Hodges (granting marriage equality) in 2015.
